BIMM University
Serving the creative industries, BIMM University unites a group of well-established specialist schools under one university name. Two institutions sit at the root of its history: Drumtech, which dates from 1983, and the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, launched in 2001. Taught Degree Awarding Powers were secured in 2019, and the title of university followed in July 2022. The member schools are BIMM Music Institute, Performers College, Northern Ballet School, MetFilm School and MetStudios, which together teach filmmaking, contemporary music, creative technology and the performing arts.
Over 8,000 students attend campuses spread across the UK, Ireland and Germany, and the British sites are in London, Brighton, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester and Leeds. Undergraduate courses include performance in vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards and drums, as well as songwriting, music production, music marketing, music business and event management, plus programmes in screen and stage work. Career readiness is a central priority, supported by links with record labels, studios, venues and festivals. Its alumni include George Ezra, James Bay and Tom Odell, together with members of Fontaines D.C.
Information for International Students
As a licensed Student sponsor, BIMM University relies on its Immigration and Compliance team to issue the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) and to guide applicants through every step of their Student visa application. Candidates apply through UCAS or directly via the BIMM applicant portal, and some are asked to audition or to provide a demo or portfolio. Anyone unable to travel may audition online through a video call or submit pre-recorded material.
Undergraduate entry usually calls for IELTS 6.0 overall with no component under 5.5, and postgraduate entry for 6.5 overall. The Duolingo English Test, Cambridge English, TOEFL iBT and PTE Academic are recognised too. Applicants below the threshold can take pre-sessional English lasting six or twelve weeks, taught in partnership with INTO at its study centre in London. BIMM runs no halls itself but works with Amber, an accommodation platform, in each campus city, and student support staff offer housing advice. Fee discounts include one for early acceptance, open to eligible non-EU applicants, while fees can be spread across the year through a payment plan. Eligible graduates may apply for the Graduate Route.
