Coventry University
Coventry University is a public university in the West Midlands whose origins lie in the Coventry School of Design, opened in 1843. After several mergers it became Lanchester Polytechnic in 1970, was renamed Coventry Polytechnic in 1987 and gained university status in 1992. The main campus occupies a compact site in Coventry city centre, and the wider Coventry University Group also operates campuses in London and Scarborough, along with a growing network of overseas locations.
The university is one of the larger institutions in the UK, with close to 30,000 students enrolled at its UK operations. It is known for a strongly applied, career-focused approach, with teaching across business, engineering, computing, art and design, law, and health and life sciences. Health education is a particular strength: the university states that it trains around three quarters of the Midlands' healthcare professionals. Coventry holds a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and places strong emphasis on employability and links with industry.
Information for International Students
Coventry University reports around 13,000 international students from more than 150 countries, making it one of the most internationally mixed universities in the country. As a licensed student sponsor, the university issues the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) needed for a Student visa and publishes detailed guidance on the visa process, travel to campus from major UK airports and arrival in the UK. Once enrolled, each student is supported by a Success Coach and an Academic Tutor.
The typical English language requirement is IELTS 6.0 overall, with at least 5.5 in each component, for most undergraduate courses, and IELTS 6.5 overall for most postgraduate courses, although some programmes set higher levels. Students who fall short can take the university's own pre-sessional English course, offered in 5, 10 and 15 week formats, face to face in Coventry or online depending on the intake. The university also runs its own International Foundation Year and International Pre-Master's programmes, and many undergraduate degrees are available with an integrated foundation year. A range of halls and self-catered accommodation sits on or close to the Coventry campus. Graduates may be eligible for the UK Graduate Route.
