King's College London
The Duke of Wellington and King George IV founded King's College London in 1829, and the college was granted a royal charter that same year. It is a member institution of the University of London and of the Russell Group, and it belongs to the cluster of research-intensive universities across London, Oxford and Cambridge commonly referred to as the golden triangle.
King's has roughly 40,000 students, who are distributed across five campuses in London: the historic site on the Strand, Waterloo, Guy's, St Thomas' and Denmark Hill in the south of the city. Nine faculties carry out its teaching and research. Strong ties with major London teaching hospitals give the university notable depth in the life sciences, medicine and health. Its Florence Nightingale Faculty, whose origins date to 1860, is considered the first nursing school to have maintained an unbroken link with a hospital. No other university in London holds a larger endowment.
Information for International Students
International students at King's can turn to the Visas and International Student Advice service, backed by practical advice on opening a bank account, working while studying and adjusting to London life. The International Foundation Programme is taught in-house and, by size, ranks among the largest foundation programmes run directly by a UK university. There are four pathways: business and economics; politics, culture and social sciences; STEM and natural sciences; and health, life and biosciences. Students who satisfy the progression requirements are guaranteed offers for King's degrees.
Instead of retaking an external English test, conditional offer holders who need stronger academic English can complete a pre-sessional programme lasting 16, 11 or 6 weeks, on campus, online or blended. First-year undergraduates on a 40-week contract, and postgraduates, are assured a place in King's accommodation if their application falls within the published booking window, with no UK guarantor required. The Welcome to King's app allows new arrivals to register for welcome events, arrange campus tours and pick up ID cards. An online search covers scholarships and bursaries, and the Graduate Route may be open to eligible graduates.
