Leeds Beckett University
Leeds Beckett University is a public university in Leeds, West Yorkshire. It traces its origins to the Leeds Mechanics Institute of 1824, became Leeds Polytechnic in 1970 and gained university status in 1992. Formerly known as Leeds Metropolitan University, it adopted its current name in 2014, taken from Beckett Park, the site of its Headingley campus.
The university operates two main campuses. City Campus sits in the centre of Leeds and combines historic buildings with modern teaching facilities, while Headingley Campus occupies around 100 acres of parkland in north-west Leeds and includes the Grade II listed James Graham Building. Leeds Beckett has more than 22,000 students and organises its teaching through a range of schools, among them Art and Design, Business, Law, Clinical Sciences, and Sport. Sport is a particular strength, with long-standing links to professional rugby league and a strong record in sport and exercise science. The university holds a Silver rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework, which recognised strong outcomes for students in retention and progression into employment and further study.
Information for International Students

Most degree courses typically require IELTS 6.0 overall with no skill below 5.5, although some courses set higher requirements. The university delivers its own Pre-sessional English courses, accredited by the British Council, with a 6-week and a 10-week option available on City Campus or by distance learning.
The Leeds Beckett University International Study Centre, operated by Study Group, offers an International Foundation Year and International Year One with progression to Leeds Beckett degrees, together with English language preparation courses. During the September arrival period the university runs a Global Arrival Service, which includes free taxis from Leeds Bradford Airport and free coach travel from Manchester Airport on scheduled dates, with onward transport to accommodation. A structured arrival guide covers enrolment, banking and healthcare registration. Graduates may be eligible for the UK Graduate Route after completing their studies.
