Leeds Trinity University
The origins of Leeds Trinity University lie in two Catholic colleges for training teachers, Trinity and All Saints. Both were established in Horsforth in 1966, and they merged in 1980. In 2009 it was granted taught degree-awarding powers together with university college status, and it became a university in 2012. The institution retains its Catholic foundation and is part of the Cathedrals Group, which brings together universities founded by churches. About 5,000 students are based across its two campuses in Leeds.
Horsforth, approximately six miles north-west of central Leeds and close to Leeds Bradford Airport, is home to the main campus, a green site containing the library, halls of residence, a sports centre and specialist facilities for media, journalism, psychology, and health and life sciences. Near the main railway station, the Leeds City Campus opened for teaching in 2024. It hosts courses in business, computer science, law, construction, and criminology and policing, with practical facilities including a trading room, a courtroom and a custody suite. Every standard undergraduate degree includes a professional work placement that is formally assessed, and this gives the university a pronounced focus on employability.
Information for International Students
For most programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level, applicants need IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each component, though a higher standard applies on certain courses such as nursing. International undergraduates may apply either directly or via UCAS, and country pages online list the qualifications accepted. Foundation year pathways, for those needing more preparation, span education, health, the social sciences, business and law, and computing and creative industries.
Through a partner service, the university offers immigration advice at no cost, and its advisers review Student visa applications prior to submission. A CAS is issued when the applicant has accepted an unconditional offer and paid the required tuition deposit. Leeds Bradford Airport transfers are free of charge. New arrivals are helped to settle by an International Welcome Programme with social events, a welcome desk on campus and online orientation sessions. The Horsforth campus is where the halls of residence are located, and on request the accommodation team can organise a different move-in date. The international team is the principal contact during the application process, and eligible graduates can seek permission to stay under the UK Graduate Route.
