Liverpool Hope University

Liverpool

Liverpool Hope University holds a distinction unique in Europe: its foundation is jointly Anglican and Catholic. Three teacher training colleges lie behind it, the earliest of them founded in 1844, and in 1979 they merged to form the Liverpool Institute of Higher Education. The institution was renamed Liverpool Hope University College in 1995, secured full university status in 2005 and was given the power to award research degrees in 2009. Hope Street, which runs between the city's two cathedrals, supplies the name, and graduation ceremonies take place in each cathedral in turn.

Hope Park, the principal campus, lies in the suburb of Childwall roughly four miles from central Liverpool, where teaching buildings from several eras stand alongside a student village. Under a mile from Lime Street station, the Creative Campus, located on Shaw Street in Everton, accommodates its School of Creative and Performing Arts along with theatres, a recording studio, a fabrication lab and dance studios. Some 5,000 students are enrolled in subjects spanning education, the arts and humanities, law, business, computing, health and the social sciences. Hope belongs to the Cathedrals Group, an association of universities founded by churches.

Information for International Students

International students at Liverpool Hope turn first to the Global Student and Partnership Centre, which runs drop-in help with everyday tasks such as setting up a bank account or signing up with a doctor. Offer holders are taken through the visa process by the International Admissions Team, and a CAS may be issued as much as three months ahead of the course start date. Most undergraduate programmes require IELTS 6.0 overall and at least 5.5 in each component. For those who need academic preparation, the Liverpool Hope International Study Centre, based on the Hope Park campus and run by Malvern International, provides a Pre-Master's Programme, International Year One and an International Foundation Programme. Oxford International Digital Institute delivers an online pre-sessional English course lasting six, twelve or sixteen weeks.

On-campus accommodation is guaranteed to every first-year student. Orientation sessions for new international students take place in the week preceding the start of teaching, and each student attends a visa compliance interview once they have arrived. Various international scholarships are offered, and the Graduate Route is open to eligible graduates.
