Swansea University

Swansea

Swansea University is a public research university in South Wales. It was established in 1920 as a university college within the federal University of Wales and later became an independent university in its own right. Today it enrols around 19,000 students across three faculties covering Medicine, Health and Life Science, Science and Engineering, and Humanities and Social Sciences.

The university operates two coastal campuses in Swansea. Singleton Park, the historic campus, sits between parkland and the beach, while the Bay Campus, opened in 2015, lies directly on the seafront to the east of the city and houses much of the engineering and management provision. Swansea is known for its research in engineering, computer science, health and medicine, including a graduate entry medicine programme, and for close partnerships with industry. The university combines a strong research profile with a reputation for high levels of student satisfaction, and its location on Swansea Bay, near the Gower Peninsula, gives it a distinctive coastal setting.

Information for International Students

Swansea University has an international community of several thousand students drawn from more than 100 countries. International students are supported by dedicated teams offering visa and immigration advice, including guidance on the Student visa application and Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), as well as arrival information and induction events through the International@Campus Life programme.

The typical English language requirement is IELTS 6.0 for most undergraduate courses and IELTS 6.5 for most postgraduate degrees, with some programmes setting higher levels. Applicants who need to improve their English can take pre-sessional courses run by English Language Training Services, which is accredited by the British Council and BALEAP.

International pathway programmes are delivered by The College, Swansea University, a joint venture with Navitas based in a purpose-built building on the Bay Campus. It offers foundation, International Year One and Pre-Master's routes leading to degrees at the university, and students are enrolled as Swansea University students from the start. First-year international students are guaranteed university accommodation provided they apply by the annual deadline. Eligible graduates may apply for the UK Graduate Route.
