Teesside University

LondonMiddlesbrough

Teesside University's origins lie in Constantine Technical College, which opened in Middlesbrough in 1930. It became Teesside Polytechnic in 1969, gained university status in 1992 and has used its current name since 2009. More than 20,000 students study with the university, whose main campus is in central Middlesbrough and whose London campus is at Here East, part of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Its five schools are the International Business School; Arts and Creative Industries; Health and Life Sciences; Computing, Engineering and Digital Technologies; and Social Sciences, Humanities and Law.

Subjects range across fields including aerospace, engineering, computing, animation, psychology, health, business and accounting. Many degrees can be studied with an integrated foundation year, and foundation degrees and higher national qualifications are also available. Its research addresses three themes, namely health and wellbeing, people and place, and net zero. Teesside has a reputation for working closely with employers and industry, and Times Higher Education has named it University of the Year on two occasions.

Information for International Students

Teesside maintains a dedicated international team. The university website explains how applicants obtain their Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) as well as the compliance requirements for sponsored students. The university delivers pre-sessional English programmes of its own, which carry British Council accreditation: a course on campus in Middlesbrough, six-week and 12-week courses online, and a blended option. Entry levels depend on course length and on the score required for the chosen degree, and all pre-sessional students must be 18 or older. English support continues in-sessionally during degree study. International students can also follow a UK Higher Education Immersion Programme as a further route, and many degrees include an integrated foundation year.

In the main arrival periods, new international students who book in advance are collected free of charge at Teesside International Airport and Newcastle International Airport, and staff then help with onward travel and collecting keys on campus. University accommodation provides around 900 beds, all no more than about five minutes' walk from the campus, with 24-hour support and bills included. Scholarships are offered to international students, and the Graduate Route is open to eligible graduates.
