University of Bradford
The University of Bradford is a public university in West Yorkshire. It received its Royal Charter in 1966, but its origins lie in a Mechanics Institute founded in 1832, which later developed into Bradford Technical College and the Bradford Institute of Technology. The university has around 11,000 students, including a large proportion of mature and first-generation students.
Bradford is based on a compact City Campus close to the centre of Bradford, and its academic work is organised into two faculties, one for Health and Social Care and one for Management, Sciences and Engineering. The university is particularly known for pharmacy, optometry, paramedic science and other health professions, for engineering, and for archaeology. Its Department of Peace Studies, established in 1973, is one of the largest centres of its kind in the world. Bradford has a strong commitment to widening participation and has repeatedly been recognised as the leading university in England for social mobility.
Information for International Students
The University of Bradford has a significant international community, with more than a fifth of its students coming from over 120 countries. A dedicated international team provides support from first enquiry through to graduation, including visa guidance and help with the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) for Student visa applicants. The university runs a free airport pickup service from Leeds Bradford and Manchester airports during set arrival periods for students who register in advance. Eligible graduates may apply for the UK Graduate Route.
The typical English language requirement for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees is IELTS 6.0 overall with no component below 5.5, although some courses ask for more. The university's Language Centre offers a pre-sessional English programme for applicants who need to raise their level before starting.
Pathway programmes are delivered by the University of Bradford International College, run in partnership with Oxford International and embedded on the City Campus. It offers an International Foundation Year, International Year Zero, International Year One, International Year Two and International Incorporated Master's routes. The university does not own its accommodation, and the nearby Homes for Students development, The Green, is the main recommended option.
