University of Brighton
The University of Brighton is a public university on the south coast of England. Its origins date back to 1858, when the Brighton School of Art opened, and it gained university status in 1992 after developing from Brighton Polytechnic. Teaching is based across three campuses in the city: Moulsecoomb, the largest, which is home to applied sciences, architecture, engineering and business; Falmer, which hosts education, health sciences, humanities and the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, run jointly with the University of Sussex; and the City campus in central Brighton, focused on art, design and media. The former Eastbourne campus closed in 2024.
The university has around 17,000 students. It is particularly well regarded for art and design, and its School of Business and Law holds AACSB accreditation, a distinction shared by a small minority of business schools worldwide. The university received a Silver award in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023 and combines professionally focused, vocational programmes with applied research.
Information for International Students
The University of Brighton has an international community drawn from more than 140 countries. An International Office supports applicants, and trained international advisers provide guidance on Student visa applications, with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) issued to eligible offer holders. The English language requirement for many undergraduate courses is IELTS 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each element, although some courses set higher levels. Applicants who need to improve their English can take the university's pre-sessional English courses, available on campus and online.

It offers foundation certificates, International Year One programmes in business and architecture, and pre-master's programmes, with guaranteed progression to the chosen degree on successful completion. First-year international students who accept their offer and apply by the deadline are guaranteed an offer of a room in halls of residence.
