University of East Anglia

Norwich

The University of East Anglia (UEA) was founded in 1963 as one of the UK's plate glass universities. It occupies a single 360-acre parkland campus on the edge of Norwich, designed by the architect Denys Lasdun and known for its Brutalist buildings and the Sainsbury Centre, designed by Norman Foster. The campus sits close to the Norwich Research Park, a major centre for agricultural, genomic and environmental research.

UEA has around 17,000 students. It is internationally recognised for creative writing, with a programme established in 1971 that has produced many award-winning authors, and for environmental sciences, where the Climatic Research Unit has been a leading centre for climate research since 1972. The Norwich Medical School and a broad range of science, social science and humanities subjects complete its academic profile. More than 91 per cent of its research was rated world leading or internationally excellent in the Research Excellence Framework 2021, and the university holds a Silver rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023.

Information for International Students

UEA has more than 3,500 international students from over 100 countries. A global recruitment team supports applicants online and at events overseas, and the university provides visa advice for students applying for a Student visa, with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) issued to eligible offer holders. The English language requirement for many undergraduate courses is IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each component, although some programmes set higher scores.

Pathway programmes are delivered on campus by INTO UEA, a joint venture with INTO University Partnerships established in 2006. INTO UEA offers an International Foundation, International Year One, a Graduate Diploma that prepares students for master's study, and pre-sessional English courses for offer holders who need to strengthen their language skills. Students at the centre have access to university facilities, including the library and Sportspark, along with dedicated on-campus accommodation, and receive support with visas and welfare. The university guarantees accommodation to first-year students, subject to conditions. Eligible graduates may apply for the UK Graduate Route.
