University of Exeter
The University of Exeter is a public research university and a member of the Russell Group, which it joined in 2012. Its roots in the city go back to 1855, and it received its Royal Charter as the University of Exeter in 1955. The university has two campuses in Exeter, Devon: Streatham, a large parkland campus, and the smaller St Luke's campus. In Cornwall, it teaches at the Penryn campus, which it shares with Falmouth University, and also has a presence in Truro.
Exeter has around 30,000 students from about 150 countries. It is known for research strengths in climate and environmental science, astrophysics including the study of extrasolar planets, genomics and translational medicine, and it teaches across a broad range of disciplines. The university hosts around 70 research centres and institutes and holds a triple Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023, an outcome achieved by only a small number of Russell Group institutions.
Information for International Students
The University of Exeter has around 7,000 international students from more than 150 countries. International student services provide support from application through to graduation, including immigration and visa guidance for Student visa applicants and an International Student Clearance process on arrival. English language requirements are set for each programme through a system of language profiles, so the required IELTS score varies by subject.
The University of Exeter International Study Centre, formerly INTO Exeter, is based on the Streatham campus. It offers the Exeter International Foundation, International Year One programmes, graduate and pre-master's preparation, pre-sessional English courses of six, ten or eighteen weeks, and longer Academic English programmes. Integrated routes combine an International Foundation, or an International Year One in Engineering, with an undergraduate degree. The university guarantees accommodation to first-year international students across its Exeter and Cornwall campuses. A paid airport collection coach runs from London Heathrow before the start of the autumn term, and separate International Welcome Programmes are held for the Exeter and Cornwall campuses. Eligible graduates may apply for the UK Graduate Route.
