University of Northampton

Northampton

The University of Northampton is one of the younger universities in the UK. Its origins lie in Nene College of Higher Education, formed in 1975 through the amalgamation of local teacher training and technical colleges, and it was granted university status in 2005. In 2018 the university consolidated its teaching on the purpose-built Waterside Campus, developed on the former Northampton Power Station site beside the River Nene and within walking distance of the town centre.

The university has around 13,500 students and is organised into three faculties: Business and Law; Education, Arts, Science and Technology; and Health, Sport and Behavioural Sciences. It is well known for its commitment to social impact and was designated an Ashoka U Changemaker Campus in 2013. Popular subject areas include business, nursing and health, law, psychology, sport, computing and design, and the university conducts internationally recognised research into lift engineering. It holds a Silver award in the Teaching Excellence Framework.

Information for International Students

The University of Northampton recruits international students for September, January and May intakes. A dedicated Immigration Compliance Services team supports international students with visa and immigration matters, and a draft Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) is shared with applicants for checking before the final CAS is issued once an offer is unconditional and the required deposit has been paid.

The typical English language requirement is IELTS 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each band for undergraduate courses, and IELTS 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in writing for master's programmes; research degrees require IELTS 7.0. Pre-sessional English Programmes are available for students who narrowly miss the required level, and free one-to-one language tutorials are offered to enrolled students. Many degrees can also be taken with an integrated foundation year.

Accommodation is guaranteed for new international students, with options on the Waterside Campus, in the town centre and in the suburbs, and early move-in is available from arrival weekend. For September starters, the university arranges a discounted coach transfer from London Heathrow to the Waterside Campus.
