University of Strathclyde
The University of Strathclyde is a public technological university in Glasgow, Scotland. It was founded in 1796 through the bequest of John Anderson, who envisaged a place of useful learning, and received its Royal Charter as a university in 1964. The idea of useful learning, with teaching closely linked to industry and practical application, remains central to its identity.
The university occupies a compact city centre campus in Glasgow, within walking distance of the main railway stations and the city's cultural and commercial districts. It has almost 30,000 students from more than 140 countries.
Strathclyde is organised into faculties of engineering, science, humanities and social sciences, and Strathclyde Business School. It is particularly well known for engineering and technology, business and management, and industry partnership, supported by facilities such as the Technology and Innovation Centre. Almost 90 percent of its research was rated world-leading or internationally excellent in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework. The university has twice been named University of the Year by Times Higher Education and is also recognised for entrepreneurship and sustainability.
