University of Warwick
Founded in 1965 during the national growth of higher education, the University of Warwick is a research-intensive institution and a member of the Russell Group. Its name can mislead: the main campus is located roughly three and a half miles from Coventry city centre, where the city meets Warwickshire. Spread over some 720 acres, the site brings academic buildings, residences owned by the university and cultural amenities together in one place. Warwick Arts Centre ranks among the biggest arts venues in the UK beyond London and stages several thousand events annually, spanning theatre, music, comedy, dance, film and visual art. In addition, Warwick Business School has a London presence at The Shard, and the university has another site at Wellesbourne.
About 28,000 students are enrolled. Around 70 per cent are undergraduates, and over 40 per cent are from outside the UK. Warwick has notable strength in mathematics, statistics, economics, finance and management, and The Times and The Sunday Times named it University of the Year in 2015.
Information for International Students
Warwick has over 9,500 international students from more than 145 countries. The Student Visa Advice Service takes applicants through the Student visa and the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies; it also advises on post-study options, including the Graduate Route. Warwick runs its own International Foundation Programme on the Coventry campus for students who need an extra preparatory year, with pathways in the arts and humanities, law, business, finance, economics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, psychology and the sciences. Foundation students hold Warwick student status from day one, and completing the programme brings a guaranteed conditional offer for a related Warwick degree. English requirements are grouped into bands that differ by course. Warwick Foundation Studies delivers pre-sessional English, online for undergraduates and either online or face to face for postgraduate offer holders.
New undergraduates who satisfy the eligibility conditions are guaranteed accommodation allocated by the university. Before arriving, students may take an international orientation course online and follow step-by-step video guides, and on arrival they are supported by Welcome Week and a weekly drop-in at the Global Lounge. International undergraduates can apply for scholarships such as the Undergraduate Global Excellence Scholarship.
