University of Wolverhampton
The University of Wolverhampton traces its origins to 1827 and the Wolverhampton Tradesmen's and Mechanics' Institute. It developed through a series of technical colleges into Wolverhampton Polytechnic and was granted university status in 1992. The university is based in the West Midlands, with its main City Campus in the centre of Wolverhampton, the Springfield Campus, also in the city, and further campuses in Walsall and Telford.
The university has around 24,000 students. Its teaching is organised in three faculties: Arts, Business and Social Sciences; Education, Health and Wellbeing; and Science and Engineering. Schools cover areas including business and law, social sciences and creative industries, nursing and midwifery, education and psychology, pharmacy and life sciences, and architecture, computing and engineering. The Black Country Medical School and a strong portfolio of health, education and professional courses reflect the university's focus on applied, career-oriented study and its role in the regional economy.
Information for International Students
The university welcomes international students from more than 130 nations and has a dedicated international team handling enquiries and applications, with country-specific entry guidance. A Student Visa Compliance and Advice team supports students on visa requirements throughout their studies, including CAS, compliance and eligibility for the Graduate Route. Pre-arrival webinars, a pre-arrival guide and an arrival form help new students prepare, and they are encouraged to arrive in time for orientation and welcome week.
The standard English language requirement for most undergraduate and postgraduate courses is typically IELTS 6.0 with no component below 5.5, with higher levels for some programmes. Preparation routes are delivered by Malvern International through an on-campus International Study Centre, offering an International Foundation Programme across six subject areas, an International Year One leading to the second year of a degree, and a Pre-Master's Programme. University accommodation is available at the City and Telford campuses and is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so international students are advised to secure a room before travelling.
